Who We Are

Removing barriers to a civil and just society for Alabama families and children

Who We Are

The Foundation was created in 1992 by Alabama’s plaintiffs’ attorneys as a charitable philanthropy committed to a vision of civil justice.

Civil Justice

The opportunity for all citizens to have adequate food and shelter, good health care, a safe environment in which to live and work, a sense of well-being, a quality education, and the chance to work and earn a living.

This can only be accomplished with the help of legal professionals, private citizens, robust nonprofits, the philanthropic community and government officials working together.

What We Do

Assist in removing barriers to a civil and just society for Alabama families, children, and seniors.

Provide information and instruction beneficial to individual consumers and the broader community.

Provide financial support to charitable organizations that are serving disadvantaged, disabled, and at-risk families and children.

Statement of Values

Preamble to our Mission

Participants in the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation share a vision of civil justice that extends beyond the courtroom. True civil justice means that every citizen has access to adequate food and shelter, quality health care, a safe environment, a strong education, and the opportunity to work and provide for their families.

Created by Alabama’s legal community, the Foundation is a charitable organization committed to making this vision a reality. We believe it can only be achieved when professionals, private citizens, and government work together to break down the barriers that stand in the way of a just society.

As attorneys, we are uniquely positioned to recognize the needs of others and work toward meeting those needs. That awareness strengthens our responsibility as engaged citizens. Through the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation, members of the legal profession join their individual commitments in a collective effort — reaching beyond the law, beyond the courtroom, and beyond their own communities to help those most in need.

The Foundation focuses on prevention of future problems, intervention to meet current needs, and long-term strategies for sustainable change. We champion collaboration at both the local and state levels, fostering the spirit of cooperation necessary to advance civil justice.

Above all, the Foundation believes in the power of the human spirit — in its capacity to grow, to flourish, and to thrive in a world shaped by fairness, dignity, and shared responsibility.

Our Mission…

is to remove barriers to a civil and just society for Alabama families and children.

The Foundation achieves these goals by (1) providing financial assistance to worthwhile charitable organizations serving disadvantaged, disabled, and at risk families and children in Alabama; and by (2) providing information and instruction beneficial to individual consumers and the larger community.
